Thrift Blog: March through May 2014

With wedding planning in high gear (I'm less than three weeks out from the wedding now), I decided it would be best to share my March, April, and May finds in one blog.  I cut back a little due to wedding planning reasons obviously.

This cute nautical inspired play suit was an awesome find at the San Diego Vintage Flea Market.  Dave and I were finally able to attend and will definitely do so in the future as well.  Excellent event!

The next item was indeed a splurge! But a splurge not to be passed up on.  Let just say I was able to purchase this dress on eBay for roughly $400 less than I have seen it listed for in the past.  I wore it on my last trip to Disneyland and had a blast wearing it and talking to people who noticed the incredible tiki room pattern.  New favorite dress!

I found this "Made in Hong Kong" gold and blue sequined 60's dress at a thrift store in Burbank, CA while visiting my friend Angie.  I could not believe my eyes!  It fits me but I could loose a few more pounds to wear it comfortably.  I'm setting this one aside for Viva next year with the goal to wear it comfortably.

Here's another non thrift find.  I finally broke down and bought myself a Lux Deville purse.  I've especially been wanting one with the Cadillac V to be used when Dave and I go for drives in our very own 1962 Cadillac (which is coming along quite nicely I might add.  Thank goodness Dave knows so much about cars)

Here are some cute broaches I came across and couldn't live without.  I especially love the kitty and man with cane as the tail on the cat wags and the man's feet move back and forth.  So cute.  I did some quick research online but couldn't find a source for the White Mouse pin.  I found several others like it but can't find any information about what it is from.  Cartoon, movie, etc...  Can anyone help?

These vintage confetti drop earrings were an fantastic thrift store find. 

Dave and I used to come across vintage table lighters all the time in our trips to various thrift stores but we noticed as of late we have started to see less and less of these.  On a recent trip we came across this one and for $2, it was coming home with us.  It doesn't work but that's not to worry as a quick trip to a smoke shop will fix it up.

Disney has an outstanding variety of Adventureland souvenirs for sale in the park.  This was my recent purchase from my last trip to the park and  believe me it was truly hard to only buy these and not the rest of the matching cups, plates, bowls, etc...

I found these months ago.  They will come in handy someday. (no hint is being implied by this of course)

I found this wooden tiki at a thrift store in Burbank.  First tiki find in a while.

Dave was the one that spotted these mugs.  They have the made in Japan markings on the bottom as well as the OMC label still intact.  There is also a marking that reads "Made exclusively for Dick Graves".  Dick Graves is the man behind Trader Dick's.  Pretty awesome find.

Dave also spotted these fantastic vintage cat eyed glasses which are in impeccable shape.  He found them just in time as I'm due for another eye exam and feel sadly that my current prescription is in need for an update.

I love the added design on the sides of the frames.

These are some fun book finds.  A book about the the history of Disney Studio's, one about Haunted areas in Britain and Ireland, and the last a photo book with pictures of Elvis' during his years in the Army.

I love 3D art and I couldn't pass on this vintage Mexican souvenir framed carved wooden ship with red velvet backing.  It's too cool.  We just need to find a space to hang it!

Where Has SweetieSuz Been? (100th Blog Entry!)

I'm still here folks!  I've made it through my 15th tax season with work and am now starting to breath again.  As every year, the end of tax season brings on a flurry of to do lists and with wedding planning blended into the mix you know for sure I've been insanely busy.  I have just  a few more things to take care of for the wedding and am feeling quite under control with less than six weeks left to go.

Dave and I still managed to make it out to a few shows during my busy season, sadly this did not include Viva Las Vegas.  We are planning on it for next year though!  We went to a rockabilly show at Tio Leo's to see our friends Fanny and the Atta' Boys perform as well as the Deadbeat Daddies, whom we thought were fantastic!

Unfortunately we were not supposed to take pictures or video.  They were fantastic and it was an excellent show!  One of the songs sung by one of the son's of an original Four Tops member brought me to tears.  If they are ever on tour in your area, GO SEE THEM!

If you have not seen it yet, we announced our date (Sunday September 28th) and schedule for our 3rd year holding the unofficial gathering at Disneyland for Tiki Day!  I bought the perfect dress for the event which I will be sharing in my March/April thrift blog.  It wasn't thrifted but am excited to share my purchase regardless.

I have a lot on the horizon planned for this blog and my life in general.  My lovely friends and family threw me my bridal shower and bachlorette party this last weekend which was fantastic.  I have thrift finds to share as well as some upcoming road trips, trips to Disneyland, and more to be determined blogs.  I hope you all enjoy reading my blogs and I can't believe that this very blog will be my 100th posting!  Time sure has flown since I made the decision to share my life's journey's and obsessions with pretty much anything vintage!  Thank you for all for your past kind comments and support through all!  The best is yet to come!

Thrift Blog: February 2014

February was a month filled with some good tiki finds as well as the annual church rummage sale that my dear Grandma attends and scopes out some awesome finds for me. Let's dive into last months finds shall we.

I came across yet another parrot necklace. This time in black and pink.  I cannot have enough of these.

This "made in Hong Kong" quilt bag with a bandanna paisley like pattern was too cute to pass up.  This would have been the perfect purse for the hulabilly theme last year at Tiki Oasis.

This was my big purchase from the Bi-Monthly Frock You Boutique sale.  It's not actually lucite, but rather a weaved plastic pink vinyl material.

I found these 80's button covers at a local thrift store.  I especially love the the horned bull button cover.

I was fortunate enough to find yet another tiki dress in my size.  I love the colors and patterns in this dress.  Saving this one to be worn at Tiki Oasis.

This 1980's Roy Lichtenstein style sweater was too cool to pass up.  I have no idea when I will ever wear it other than when I'm lounging around at home.  This purchase however did require some help from a friend to talk me buying into it.

This green plaid Pendleton coat was another sweet find at the Bi-Monthly Frock You sale.

As well as these next few dresses and vintage Talbot bathing suit.

These next few pictures are the beautiful items that my grandmother picked up for me at her church's annual rummage sale.  She said she spent a total of $12 on me and this isn't a picture of everything she sent me.

This Bakelite mirror is in pristine condition.

There was also a ton of hand stitched items this year.  She bought me this lovely collar, apron, and table cloth as well as some other marvelous pieces not pictured.  Thank you Grandma!

I'm five weeks away from finishing my 15th tax season and less than one hundred days out from the wedding.  So much fun stuff coming up the next couple of months!

Dapper Day 2014

Last month Dave and I attended the annual Spring Dapper Day gathering at Disneyland.  This is our now third time attending the Spring event and boy how big has this event has grown.  We decided to get to the park bright and early because we both had a hunch that the park may be packed even more that the previous year.  We were right but it was and awesome site to see so many Dapper folk wandering around the park.

This was a most excellent day for people watching.  We managed to run into the "King of Retro" himself Mr. Charles Phoenix.  I loved his entire ensemble, especially his tiki shirt!

Friends Lindsay and Alisha.  It was actually a lovely surprise for me that Lindsay was able to attend this year.  I was very happy they both could join us at the park this year.

We ran into our friends Paul, Lisa, and Rebecca and were sure to visit one of our favorite spots in the park, The Enchanted Tiki Room.

Being that the park was so packed it was pretty pointless to ride any of the big rides unless you wanted to wait for an hour or longer on some attractions.  Not pictured (doh!) are me running into vloggers Justin Scarred from the YouTube channel LiveFastDiePoor as well as Adam from Adamthewoo.  I was so stoked to run into those two guys.  My favorite outfit of the day was when I spotted a guy dressed up like Marty McFly from Back to the Future with orange vest (life preserver) and all! Too creative!  One of my favorite times to take pictures in the park is at twilight.

We ended the day with a ride on the tea cups and then headed back home after what turned out to be a 12 hour visit at the park.  I'm sorry I didn't take better pictures.  Be sure to check out the Dapper Day website here as they have much better pictures to share.  We are looking forward to the fall event come September!
