Thrift Blog: March 2013

My shopping habits have cooled off this month mainly due to my increased work hours for this present tax season.  This is a good thing as I will need to make sure I have room for Dave and all his things once he moves in next month.  He luckily mainly has furniture (most from the 1930's and 1940's) as well as a nice full closet of suits that he collects.  I was able to donate and sell about half of my spare closet in order to make room for him.  It was a hard process but it had to be done.  I honestly don't remember now the half of what I got rid of.  Just proof I didn't need it.

We had an excellent trip to Las Vegas for the Viva Weekender, but for now here are my buys from last month.  There will be a Viva blog soon.

I have been looking for something cute and vintage that I could use to store my bobby hair pins.  I loved the color of this jam jar and thought it would do just right.

This was a score and nothing I have ever come across in the past.  It's a black Pendleton wool dress.  This picture does not do it justice.  It has a slight peter pan collar and rectangle like lines that run on the bust line and down to the bottom of the dress.  So cute!  I have no clue how old it is but my best guess would be that it's from the 1960's possibly.

Sorry about the picture of the label being sideways.  I swear it was horizontal when I uploaded it but it switched on me and  I can't figure out how to switch it back.

This is my first cheongsam styled dress.  Of course being that it's tiki makes it even more special.  I'll be saving this one for this year's Tiki Oasis (which was just recently announced here) .

Same problem with the label picture again folks.

This isn't vintage but I loved the pattern on the fabric as well as the cut on the top of the dress.  Too cute and will make a great summer dress addition.

I can't tell you enough how much I love this skirt.  It's 80's does 50's.  I've worn it on a couple occasions already and have gotten a glowing reception to it as well.  Such fun to wear!

This is another non-vintage item with a fantastic pattern.  I just love the lace like pattern on it.  It's actually pretty heavy too.

A year ago I was on the hunt for oval shaped frames and had the hardest time finding them.  I ended up spending far to much on a brand new (I know, shame shame on me) frame purchased at Target.  Knowing now how much a brand new frame would cost I surely couldn't pass on a $2.00 find.

This is another non-vintage item but a great buy no less.  I used this basket purse matched with my first outfit for the day at Viva on Saturday (pictures to come soon).

Till' Next Time,

Suz

  1. What an awesome haul. Love the red circle skirt. That green jar is darling and so much cuter than just throwing them in the drawer. My husband is always getting on my back about bobby pins he finds strewn around the house. He acts like I do it on purpose. Men. They don't understand the cost of looking gorgeous.
